Subject: Surah Inshiqaq (84) Word Translation - Verse 1 - 17 [1 Attachment]

After the completion of Surah Mutaffifin, we will now move on to word-to-word translation of Surah Inshiqaq.

Below is the brief introduction of this Surah.

Name

It is derived from the word inshaqqat in the first verse. Inshaqqat is infinitive which means to split asunder, thereby implying that it is the Surah in which mention has been made of the splitting asunder of the heavens.

Period of Revelation

This too is one of the earliest Surahs to be revealed at Makkah. The internal evidence of its subject matter indicates that persecution of the Muslims had not yet started; however, the message of the Qur'an was being openly repudiated at Makkah and the people were refusing to acknowledge that Resurrection would ever take place when they would have to appear before their Creator to render an account of their deeds.

Theme and Subject Matter

Its theme is the Resurrection and Hereafter.

In the first five verses not only have the state of Resurrection been described vividly but an argument of its being true and certain also have been given. It has been stated that the heavens on that Day will split asunder, the earth will be spread out plain and smooth, and it will throw out whatever lies inside it of the dead bodies of men and evidences of their deeds so as to become completely empty from within. The argument given for it is that such will be the Command of their Lord for the heavens and the earth; since both are His creation. they cannot dare disobey His Command. For them the only right and proper course is that they should obey the Command of their Lord.

Then, in verses 6-19 it has been said that whether man is conscious of this fact or not, he in any case is moving to the destination when he will appear and stand before his Lord. At that time all human beings will divide into two parts: first those whose records will be given in their right hands: they will be forgiven without any severe reckoning; second those whose records will be given them behind their back. They will wish that they should die somehow, but they will not die; instead they will be cast into Hell. They will meet with this fate because in the world they remained lost in the misunderstanding that they would never have to appear before Allah to render an account of their deeds, whereas their Lord was watching whatever they were doing, and there was no reason why they should escape the accountability for their deeds. Their moving gradual]y from the life of the world to the meting out of rewards and punishments in the Hereafter was as certain as the appearance of twilight after sunset, the coming of the night after the day, the returning of men and animals to their respective abodes at night, and the growing of the crescent into full moon.

In conclusion, the disbelievers who repudiate the Qur'an instead of bowing down to Allah when they hear it, have been forewarned of a grievous punishment and the good news of limitless rewards has been given to the believers and the righteous.

Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem

Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barkatuh!

Friday Nasiha:

Islamic Tarbiyah of Children

 Allah Ta'ala says in the Qur'aan:
"O you who have Imaan!
Save yourselves and your families
from the fire (of Jahannum)."

We understand from this aayah the importance of
the proper Islamic tarbiyah (nurturing) of our families.

The main cause of children being spoilt is our lack of interest in their tarbiyah. It is the incumbent responsibility of both the parents to bring up and nurture their children Islamically. However, a greater responsibility lies upon the mother, since the children grow up mainly in her care.

Parents should try and gain the maximum out of their children by moulding their behaviour in accordance with the Shari'ah. Besides benefiting the children it will also benefit us. Whatever good accrues from them, we will also have a share in the reward they attain. Every salaah they perform, every aayah of the Qur'aan they recite and every other good deed that they may perform, a share of the reward will be reserved for us as well (inshaAllah).

Definition of Tarbiyah:
The word tarbiyah means to nurture, rear or to take care of a child from stage to stage until he/she becomes obedient and righteous.

 Islamic Tarbiyyah of Children

Abdul Wahid Hamid
Islam: The Natural Way

In the tarbiyyah (nurturing / upbringing) of children, you should remember that children often learn from example. The proper conduct and example of parents are crucial in the upbringing of children.

Parents who expect their children to be disciplined and to work hard must must themselves be disciplined and work hard. Parents who expect their children to be truthful must not be in the habit of telling lies.

Also, it is important to remember that the treatment given to children in the early years of their life can have far-reaching effects on their mental and emotional state later on in life.

In the tarbiyyah of children, you should try to remember that:

~  Children should be happy and cheerful. And have a zest for life and living. They should be able to feel something of the carefree joy and excitement of growing up, especially before they are mukallaf. They should not be battered and terrorised.

~  They should be trained to grow up with the attitudes and habits,
the adab or etiquette of Islam:
"Be generous, kind and noble to your children and make their habits and manners good and beautiful (Akrimuu awlaadakum was ahsinuu adabahum)," said the noble Prophet (
sallAllahu alayhi wasallam).

Among the virtues and habits they should develop are:

->   the habit of being honest and truthful;
->   the habit of being gentle and polite, " for according to the noble Prophet (
sallAllahu alayhi wasallam), "Gentleness adorns everything" without being timid, afraid and cowed down;
->   the habit of being helpful and considerate without being loutish in their behaviour to others;
->   the habit of being clean and neat and tidy, of looking after their personal hygiene and appearance.

Children need to develop the adab or the etiquette of Islam: when and how to greet; how to speak, sit, eat, and how to perform natural functions like personal toilet in the clean and efficient manner as taught by the beloved Prophet (
sallAllahu alayhi wasallam); to do everything in the manner, time and place that is appropriate for it, for example: to be reverent in salat, attentive in class, robust and full of zeal in play.

Children need to develop physical fitness and skills, to be strong and courageous. The Prophet (sallAllahu alayhi wasallam) recommended that children be taught horse-riding, swimming and archery.

One Muslim ruler once suggested that his child be taught swimming before reading or writing on the grounds that someone else may read and write for him but no one can swim for him!

From the noble Prophet (
sallAllahu alayhi wasallam)'s recommendations, we see that children need to lead an active outdoor life and be proficient in some of the martial arts. They should have the stamina for demanding play and demanding work. This implies at least that they should be adequately fed.

Children need to develop a thirst for knowledge, beneficial knowledge â€" through listening, observation, reading, interacting with others. It is recommended that children be taught from an early age to recite and read the Qur’an and develop a love for it. At an early age, they have the capacity to memorise it and it is common for many children and youths to memorise the whole or large parts of the Qur'an.
From the age of seven, the Prophet (
sallAllahu alayhi wasallam) recommended that children should get in the habit of performing salat and by the age of ten they should be required to do so regularly.

Children need to develop skills and to be creative and inventive. They should be trained from an early age to take on responsibilities, to organise and take initiative rather than be timid and submissive. They should be able to spend their time usefully and profitably.

They need to develop skills that would fit them for contemporary living and for the particular society in which they live. This may involve anything â€" from the skills of running an efficient and creative home to the skills that would enable them to earn a living and help them in the process of tarbiyyah when their turn comes. Give a person a fish and you feed just one person; teach a person to fish and he can feed hundreds, says an apt Chinese proverb.

Above all, correct tarbiyyah should ensure that children develop a love for Islam, a love for Allah and His Prophet (
sallAllahu alayhi wasallam) and that they develop a feeling of pride in being Muslim and a willingness to strive for the good of others.

They need to realize the benefits of Islam, the foundations on which it is based and their need for Islam. They need to value Islam and live by Islamic values.
