Nearly two million pilgrims scale the craggy hills Mount Arafat for the final stages of the Haj as Saudi authorities deploy drones to watch over the crowds and avoid a repeat of last year's deadly crush
On foot or seated on the roofs of buses, the faithful climbed down the craggy hills outside Mecca (left) at sunset and set out en masse for the open plateau of Muzdalifah. The surveillance was part of stepped-up efforts to avoid a repeat of last year's crush, which killed nearly 800 pilgrims, according to the official count. Pilgrims gathered before performing the midday prayer at the Nimra Mosque,(right, top and bottom) believed to have been built on the spot where Prophet Mohamed stopped to pray the day he made his last sermon.__._,_.___
