We, The Ahle As Sunnah, believe that Allah has given the knowledge of the Ghayb (unseen), to the Prophet [May Allah bless him and grant him peace], and that it is also permissable to say that our Prophet [May Allah bless him and grant him peace] knows the knowledge of the Ghayb. However, it is not possible, nor permissable to say that the Prophet's [May Allah bless him and grant him peace] knowledge of the Ghayb is equal to that of Allah , since Allah's knowledge is His own and the Prophet's [May Allah bless him and grant him peace] knowledge has been given to him by Allah.

Holy Prophet (may peace be upon him) anwering random  questions posted by random people about thier father's

Sahih Muslim Book 030, Number 5829:

Abu Musa reported that Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) was asked such things which he disapproved and when they

persisted on asking him he felt enraged and then said to the people: Ask me what you wish to ask. Thereupon a person said:

Who is my father? He said: Your father is Hudhafa. Then another person stood up and said: Allah's Messenger, who is my father? He said: Your father is Salim, the freed slave of Shaiba.

When 'Umar saw the signs of anger upon the face of Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him), he said: Allah's Messenger, we ask repentance from Allah. And in the hadith transmitted on the authority of Abu Kuraib (the words are):" Allah's Messenger, who is my father? He said: Your father is Salim, the freed slave of Shaiba."

Sahih Muslim Book 30, Number 5827:

Anas b. Malik reported that the people asked Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) until he was hard pressed. He went out one day and he occupied the pulpit and said: Ask me and I shall leave no question of yours unanswered for you, and when the people heard about it they were overawed, as if (something tragic) was going to happen. Anas said: I began to look towards the right and the left and (found) that every person was weeping wrapping his head with the cloth. Then a person in the mosque broke the ice and they used to dispute with him by attributing his fatherhood to another man than his own father. He said: Allah's Apostle, who is my father? He said: Your father is Hudhafa. Then 'Umar b. Khattab (Allah be pleased with him) dared say something and said: We are well pleased with Allah as our Lord, with Islam as our code of life and with Muhammad as our Messenger, seeking refuge with Allah from the evil of Turmoil. Thereupon Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: Never did I see the good and evil as today. Paradise and Hell were given a visible shape before me (in this worldly life) and I saw both of them near this well.

Holy Prophet (may peace be upon him) -The earth was unfolded before him and he saw it from the east to the west

Sahih Muslim Book 041, Number 6904:

Thauban reported that Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: Allah drew the ends of the world near one another for my sake. And I have seen its eastern and western ends. And the dominion of my Ummah would reach those ends which have been drawn near me and I have been granted the red and the white treasure and I begged my Lord for my Ummah that it should not be destroyed because of famine, nor be dominated by an enemy who is not amongst them to take their lives and destroy them root and branch, and my Lord said: Muhammad, whenever I make a decision, there is none to change it. Well, I grant you for your Ummah that it would not be destroyed by famine and it would not be dominated by an enemy who would not be amongst it and would take their lives and destroy them root and branch even if all the people from the different parts of the world join hands together (for this purpose), but it would be from amongst them, viz. your Ummah, that some people would kill the others or imprison the others.

Sahih Muslim Book 41, Number 6905:
'

Thauban reported that Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said. Verily, Allah drew the ends of the world near me until I saw its east and west an He bestowed upon me two treasures, the red and the white. The rest of the hadith is the same.

Holy Prophet (may peace be upon him) -I have seen paradise and hell

Narrated Asma: I came to 'Aisha while she was praying, and said to her, "What has happened to the people?" She pointed out towards the sky. (I looked towards the mosque), and saw the people offering the prayer. Aisha said, "Subhan Allah." I said to her, "Is there a sign?" She nodded with her head meaning, "Yes." I, too, then stood (for the prayer of eclipse) till I became (nearly) unconscious and later on I poured water on my head. After the prayer, the Prophet praised and glorified Allah and then said, "Just now at this place I have seen what I have never seen before, including Paradise and Hell. No doubt it has been inspired to me that you will be put to trials in your graves and these trials will be like the trials of Masiah-ad-Dajjal or nearly like it (the sub narrator is not sure which expression Asma' used). You will be asked, 'What do you know about this man (the Prophet Muhammad)?' Then the faithful believer (or Asma' said a similar word) will reply, 'He is Muhammad Allah's Apostle who had come to us with clear evidences and guidance and so we accepted his teachings and followed him. And he is Muhammad.' And he will repeat it thrice. Then the angels will say to him, 'Sleep in peace as we have come to know that you were a faithful believer.' On the other hand, a hypocrite or a doubtful person will reply, 'I do not know, but I heard the people saying something and so I said it.' (the same).

Holy Prophet (may peace be upon him) -I can see the sacred fount , right now

Sahih Bukari Volume 4, Book 56, Number 795:

Narrated 'Uqba bin 'Amr: The Prophet once came out and offered the funeral prayer for the martyrs of Uhud, and proceeded to the pulpit and said, "I shall be your predecessor and a witness on you, and I am really looking at my sacred Fount now, and no doubt, I have been given the keys of the treasures of the world. By Allah, I am not afraid that you will worship others along with Allah, but I am afraid that you will envy and fight one another for worldly fortunes."

Holy Prophet (may peace be upon him) - Telling people about events in the future and past.

Sahih Bukhari Volume 4, Book 54, Number 414:

    Narrated Imran bin Husain:

I went to the Prophet and tied my she-camel at the gate. The people of Bani Tamim came to the Prophet who said "O Bani Tamim! Accept the good tidings." They said twice, 'You have given us the good tidings, now give us something" Then some Yemenites came to him and he said, "Accept the good tidings, O people of Yemem, for Bani Tamim refused them." They said, "We accept it, O Allah's Apostle! We have come to ask you about this matter (i.e. the start of creations)." He said, "First of all, there was nothing but Allah, and (then He created His Throne). His throne was over the water, and He wrote everything in the Book (in the Heaven) and created the Heavens and the Earth." Then a man shouted, "O Ibn Husain! Your she-camel has gone away!" So, I went away and could not see the she-camel because of the mirage. By Allah, I wished I had left that she-camel (but not that gathering).

Narrated 'Umar(may allah be pleased with him): One day the Prophet stood up amongst us for a long period and informed us about the beginning of creation (and talked about everything in detail) till he mentioned how the people of Paradise will enter their places and the people of Hell will enter their places. Some remembered what he had said, and some forgot it.

Sahih Bukhari Volume 4, Book 54, Number 414:

The Quranic Verses

Proof from the Qur'an that the Prophet Muhammad (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) has been given the knowledge of al-Ghayb:

Allah says in the Qur'an al-karim:

"These are the tidings of the Unseen that We reveal to you in secret"

[Sura al-Imran, verse 44]

"Nor will He disclose to you the secrets of the Unseen. But He chooses of His Apostles [for the purpose]"

[Sura al-Imran, verse 179]

"The Knower of Unseen reveals not His secret to anyone Except to His chosen Messengers".

[Sura al-Jinn, verse 26]

"...Allah has sent down to you the Book and Wisdom and has taught to you what you did not know, and great is the grace of Allah upon you"

[Sura an-Nisa, verse 113]

Commentary from Scholars

Imam Tabari

Imam Tabari alayhir rahman writes under this verse:

"Allah Most High has told the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) to thank Him as He has informed the Prophet of what has already happened and what will happen in the future and this is a bestowal of great grace"

[Tafsir Tabari, Sura an-Nisa, under verse 113]

The above Qur'anic verses prove that Allah Most High has given Muhammad (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) the knowledge of the Ghayb.

Hafiz Ibn Kathir

Hafiz Ibn Kathir  writes:

"Suad ibn Qarib recited a poem in front of the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace): 'I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allah. Allah has made you the trustee over all the Ghayb' "

    [Ibn Kathir, Sirat an-Nabi]

Shaykh al-Islam, Hafiz Ibn Hajar al-'Asqalani, writes:

"One of the qualities bestowed upon a Prophet is the quality that he knows what has already happened in the past and what will happen in the future"

[Fath al-Bari, chapter on 'The Anbiya']

Hafiz Ibn Kathir writes:

"A shepherd was with his goats upon which a wolf came and grabbed one goat and ran. The shepherd then chased after the wolf

to get the goat back. The wolf then spoke to him and said, 'Why do you take what food (rizq) which Allah has provided for

me?' The shepherd was astonished that the wolf spoke. The wolf again said, 'If you are so surprised that I can talk then go

to Madina. You will find the last of the Prophets, and he can inform you of the past and the future'. The shepherd left his

goats and went straight to the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) and mentioned his experience. The Prophet

(may Allah bless him and grant him peace) replied, 'The wolf spoke the truth.' Isnad [chain of narrators]. for this hadith is

authentic.

[Ta'rikh Ibn Kathir, chapter on 'Miracles of the Prophet']

[Musnad Ahmad Ibn Hanbal, vol 5, page 243]

The Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) stated, "I have seen my Lord. He put His hands upon my chest, after which everything appeared before me and I recognized everything"

Allah Hafiz.
